JJ Katnik Tied For 26th Place At Big West Championships



JJ Katnik shot a 9-over 153 on day one at the Big West Championships

Rancho Santa Margarita - The Long Beach State men's golf team completed day one of the Big West Conference Championships with a 44-over 620. The 49ers shot a 310 in both first and second rounds to finish in 8th place at the Tijeras Creek Golf Club on Monday. UC Davis and UC Irvine are co-leaders as both teams recorded a 5-under 571 and hold a comfortable 17-shot lead over third place Pacific.

Individually for the 49ers, JJ Katnik was the top individual for LBSU as he finished tied for 26th place with a 9-over 153 (78-75). Michael Drake is two shots back with a 155 (76-79) and is tied for 30th, followed by Karl Katnik tied for 32nd with a 156 (76-80). Ricky Montanez tied for 35th with a 157 (81-76) and Eric Pitcaithley finished in 38th. Sean Shahi of UC Irvine is currently in first place with a 6-under 138 (63-70).

Final round action continues on Tuesday morning at 7:30 a.m.
