Long Beach, Calif. - Freshman pitcher Brooke Turner earned her second major postseason award Wednesday, being named First Team All-West Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Turner joined Fresno State's Morgan Melloh as the two pitchers picked for the first team.

Turner, the Big West Pitcher of the Year and Freshman Pitcher of the Year, continues to have an outstanding first season at Long Beach State. Among the single-season records set by the 5-10" pitcher are most shutouts (17), wins (26) and strikeouts (226) as the team enters the NCAA postseason as the No. 14 national seed.

Also among the records set by Turner during the season is the single-game strikeout record for Long Beach State, where she has the top two totals in program history. Turner punched out 15 Toreros in her collegiate debut against San Diego, and then topped that mark with 16 strikeouts in a win against No. 1 Florida, one of two setbacks the Gators had all season.

Earning National Player of the Week honors after that performance, Turner was also named the Big West Pitcher of the Week a record-setting eight times, pacing the 49ers to the Big West Championship and their 18th NCAA berth.

With the first-team selection, Turner automatically becomes eligible to become the program's fourth All-American. The All-America team will be announced by the NFCA on Wednesday, May 28.
